Saint Valentine, also known as Valentine of Rome, was a Catholic priest who lived during the 3rd century AD. While the exact historical details of his life remain uncertain, his story has been passed down through tradition. Saint Valentine was renowned for his acts of obedience to his vocation and defiance to the Emperor, ultimately leading to his martyrdom. During Emperor Claudius II's reign, marriage for young men was banned, as the emperor believed that unmarried soldiers were better suited for battle. However, Valentine secretly performed Christian marriages, defying the emperor's decree and demonstrating his commitment to love, family, and the sacrament of marriage.

Another story suggests that Valentine provided aid and support to Christians who were being persecuted by the Roman Empire. In a time of intense religious persecution, he offered solace and material assistance to those in need, making clear his unwavering dedication to his faith and fellow believers.

At one point when St. Valentine was on house arrest with a judge named Asterius, they were discussing the Catholic faith and Valentine pledged the validity of Jesus. Judge Asterius decided to test the faith of Valentine. He presented Valentine with his blind daughter and told him to restore her sight. Valentine placed his hands over the girls eyes and restored her sight. Asterius was beyond grateful and amazed; then agreeing to break all the idols around his home, fast for three days and become baptized along with his family and household of 44 people! Once trying to convince the emperor himself to convert, Emperor Claudius became angry and threatened that Valentine renounce his faith or be sentenced to death. Valentine was beheaded on February 14, 269. Tradition tells that before his execution, he wrote a letter to the judge’s daughter whom he healed from blindness, signing it, “From Your Valentine.”

Executed for his faith, Valentine solidified his place as a martyr and we now associate his name with the execution day that is now celebrated as Valentine's Day. The relic of St. Valentine’s skull is surrounded by flowers and remains in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome to this day.

80/20% Cotton/Poly Blend

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0240/9847/2013/files/A07435D2-6882-4F36-AD64-C520F0CE25A2.png?v=1769305543
