This Brown Scapular is my personal favorite. Right out of the package, it feels soft, comfortable, and slightly worn in. I’ve worn one for years, and it has held up beautifully—only becoming softer with time.
The Brown Scapular comes from the habit of the Carmelite Order and is worn as a sign of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. According to tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Simon Stock and gave him the scapular as a sign of her protection and the wearer’s belonging to the Carmelite family.
The scapular is not a charm or a guarantee of salvation. It is a simple garment of devotion—a daily reminder to stay close to prayer, the Sacraments, and to entrust ourselves to Mary as she leads us to her Son.
First-time wearers should ask a priest or deacon to bless the scapular and enroll them using the Church’s approved rite. Enrollment only needs to happen once. If you are replacing an older scapular, the new one does not need to be blessed, though you may choose to have it blessed.
Wear it beneath your shirt, close to your heart, as a quiet sign of faith in everyday life.
