When Saint Kolbe was 10 years old, he had a vision of Our Lady. She offered him two crowns: A white one for Purity, and a red one for Martyrdom. Even at his young age, he chose both, foreshadowing his life to come. He joined the Franciscan Order in 1910 and founded the Militia of the Immaculata (the Knights of Mary) in 1917. His goal was to “win the world for Christ through the Immaculata”. in 1941 he gave his life for another in the Auschwitz concentration camp. He was canonized a Saint by Pope John Paul II in 1982. St. Maximilian Kolbe is considered a patron of journalists, families, prisoners, the pro-life movement, the chemically addicted and those with eating disorders -
