One of the most beloved Marian sacramentals in the world began with a simple request from Our Lady: make this medal.
In 1830, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré in Paris and showed her the image that would become the Miraculous Medal. Mary stood upon a globe with rays of light flowing from her hands, surrounded by the words: “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” She asked that a medal be made according to this image, and devotion to it quickly spread throughout the Catholic world.
For generations, Catholics have worn the Miraculous Medal as a sign of trust in Our Lady’s intercession and protection. The medal is not a charm, but a sacramental that points us toward prayer, grace, and confidence in Mary’s care as she always leads us closer to her Son.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.
