Edith Stein spent her life searching for truth, God gave her the courage to follow it wherever it led.
Born into a Jewish family in 1891, Edith Stein eventually stopped believing in God as a young woman and threw herself into philosophy and the search for truth. That search ultimately led her somewhere she never expected. After reading the autobiography of St. Teresa of Ávila, she famously closed the book and said, “This is the truth.” She was baptized into the Catholic Church in 1922 and later entered the Carmelite order, becoming Sister Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.
There is something incredibly compelling about a saint who refused to settle for easy answers. Edith Stein reminds us that asking difficult questions and searching deeply for what is true does not have to pull us away from God. Sometimes, that very search is what leads us to Him. Her words remain a beautiful challenge for anyone trying to live an honest, thoughtful Catholic faith: when you seek truth, you seek God.
