The Jesus Prayer is a short, repetitive prayer traditionally used in Eastern Christianity but is also recited by Roman Catholics. This prayer helps us return to the Father through Christ in the Holy Spirit and to be open to the presence of the Kingdom in our midst:
"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
The anonymous author of The Way of the Pilgrim writes that the Jesus Prayer has very concrete effects upon his vision of the world — transfiguring his relationship with the material creation around him. The world becomes transparent, a sign, a means of communicating God’s presence.
